iPod
iPod:
Had it been one more half witted feature, I wouldn’t have bothered to write about the rest of the features. Now, as you are lucky to read this review, you must have guessed that iPod on the phone is good. There is no doubt that it’s the best Video iPod till date. Thanks to the 3.5 inch display. The ‘flick and touch’ interface works well and is a treat for eyes. It is way better when compared to the ‘scroll wheel’ of any iPod.
Some of the formats supported are .mov and .mp4. The only minor complain here is the hate shown towards our favorite DivX and WMV. DivX player is freely available to download on Symbian phones. Mostly Nokia Series60 v1, v2 and v3 phones (LG also has some Symbian phones but no one gives a damn, just because it sucks). So I really miss the DivX player. Fuck! I’m becoming Apple fan. Ahem! DivX would have never worked on iPhone as iPhone is made for losers and that could defy the whole purpose. Now I am getting it right.
I never expected the TV out feature from Apple and it is not there.
You can find a desired song easily by either flick or list view. Flicking through the album covers virtually makes you feel as if you are really going through your disk rack. Other features like song ratings, cover art, volume and playback controls are well placed.
The sound quality is just ok the bundled headset is fine. Even though the phone supports 3.5mm jack. It is of no use because the ‘asshole’ Steve Jobs has made it in such way that no earphone of any other brand could fit into it.
I bet that the years old Nokia N91 8GB edition beats this phone on music front any day.
As I have already mentioned that you can listen to music while on call, but that doesn’t mean iPhone can do multitasking. Reason is that I never had a safari browser working for more than 3-4 minutes while listening to music in background. The eye-candy in iPod applications has cost the iPhone its stability. I really prefer browsing the internet rather than staring at album art while listening to music.
You can’t share music over Bluetooth, thanks to the sulky Bluetooth profile. It is pain transferring music on iPhone.
Everyone knows that all Apple products need iTunes to move their asses. It is the only known, working and free to download application for Mac. The first time my friend started this phone, it displayed a message ‘please connect iTunes’ (Steve, why do we need iTunes to use the phone?). He rushed to install iTunes on his windows vista based pc. Soon we learned that iTunes doesn’t work on vista. So I let him install iTunes on my Windows XP. He synced about 3.5 GB of music files with the iPhone. The total storage space you get on 8GB version is approximately 7GB. My friend was so happy; I thought I could never forget the smile on his face. Later that day he synced those files again and a miracle happened. Yes all the songs which were re-synced got placed in the ‘others’ folder. Almost half of the total storage was lost in seconds. I have never seen anything like this in my entire life. It was and is a miracle. Miracles do happen when you buy the so called ‘Jesus Phone’ (now I can forgot the smile, seen earlier on his face... but can’t forget his ‘shock and awe’ sort of expressions after this ‘miracle’). I tried everything to get rid of that 3.5GB of space but no use. Did any phone jerk said ‘hard reset’? Yes, but its not recommended.
