Ear rings
Ear rings are the ornamental articles which are worn on the ear-lobe or even on other parts of an ear by piercing through. Ear clips are also amongst the favorite fashion accessories, though no piercing is required to put on these. In India; and all over the world, ear rings have been worn by men and women since the civilization began to dawn.
Without any exception, all the materials found on this planet are used in making ear rings, may it be plastic, stones, glass, precious gems, amber, wood, pearls, shells, beads, ivory, feathers, dried fruits, ceramics, lacquers and metals like gold, silver, platinum, bronze, white metal(German silver), all are equally popular for different occasions and serve their purpose well.
Just like the great number and kinds of the materials from which the ear rings are made, the later have a great variety and art-work as well. Therefore, the ear rings are divided into various kinds, depending on their
size and material used.
Studs
Studs remain an 'all-season' decoration of ears. Being light weight they may be easily worn round the clock! Studs are available in different shapes (droplets, stars, geometrical shapes etc.) and may be made of any material too. From diamond embedded studs to the flower-shaped plastic studs, each one enhances the value of your
accessory box!
Danglers
These days, dangle ear rings or the danglers are being most often seen among young girls and married women. They contain a stud on the top and dangling piece at the bottom that swings along as the body moves.
Ear rings made of buttons
Some designers use different unconventional objects to make ear rings. For example the picture above shows a pair of ear ring made from buttons.
Hoop Ear rings
Hoop ear rings appear like almost a
ring, though the size may vary! They may be circular or semi-circular in shape. Also, they may contain diamonds, gems or pears embedded in the arc.

Equally famous are the spike shaped ear accessories for people who wish to give their ears some 'rest'. The plain spike is a small tube or stick with the diameter sufficient to be held in the piercing and length as much as the width of the ear-lobe. These are mostly worn by school-going children or by elderly women.
